Palawan’s Underground River Candidate for the Search of the New 7 Nature Wonders of the World

Palawan is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places in the Philippines.  It is the cleanest city in the philippines, in fact you can hardly find a candy wrapper on the street even if you go deeper into the woody areas of the island.  Besides that it is one of the most beautiful white sand beaches and crystal clear ocean waters teeming with colorful fishes.  Another tourist attraction is the Puerto Princesa’s Underground River National Park.  It is really hard to describe how beautiful this cave is.  You go in the cave with just a little boat in a small cave opening however when you are inside the cave you will be amazed how vast it is inside.  It seems that a cathedral could fit inside of it. I forgot to mention that outside the cave there are a lot of monitor lizards just crawling lazily waiting for you to throw some of your food however, be warned that there are also a lot of monkeys ready to share your food.  I love this place.

Today it is a candidate for the search of the new seven wonders.  The city government has embarked on a campaign to make the cut of 77 nominees by yearend via Internet voting, and get into the second round of selection for the top 21 nature sites to be announced in January 2009.

A second round of Internet-based voting will be held for the remaining 21 candidates starting in January next year and will culminate with the official declaration by the organizers of the New Seven Wonders of the World by year 2010.

Puerto Princesa’s underground river joins three other nominees from the Philippines led by the Chocolate Hills of Bohol, the Tubbataha Reefs also in Palawan and Mayon Volcano in the Bicol region.

Chocolate Hills is now rank 7 while Tubbataha Reefs rank 10 and underground river rank 270.
